Itinerary Safari to the Clouds

Covering an area of over 155,000 square kilometres, the region of Salta is home to rich geographical diversity: arid deserts, verdant jungles, lush valleys, and picturesque gorges all come together to form an enchanting traveller’s paradise.

Safari to the Clouds offers a wonderful opportunity to experience three spectacular Argentinian routes in one remarkable sightseeing tour. Your ride for the day will be on board the Movitrack: a vehicle custom-designed to travel long distances with an open-top roof ideal for gazing at the breathtaking panoramic views.

The journey begins with a climb up Camino a las Nubes, following the famous spiraling railway of the Train to the Clouds, and an exhilarating jaunt through Quebrada del Toro up to the mining village of San Antonio de los Cobres. On the way, you will stop and explore the remains of a pre-Incan fortress that was declared a National Landmark back in 1945.

Your adventure then continues along Route 40, across the sparse Puna grasslands, and onwards to the simply stunning Salinas Grandes. Situated on the border of Jujuy province on the high plateau, this seemingly infinite salt plain is one of the world’s great natural wonders: a place to capture those unforgettable holiday snapshots.

Back in the Movitrack and your final mini-excursion of the day will take you down Cuesta de Lipán towards the quaint rural town of Purmamarca. Arriving via a 17km steep labyrinthine descent, you will be greeted by beautiful views of Cerro de los Siete Colores: a rainbow colored mountain that owes its name to the varying shades of pigment in the rocks. A true treat for the senses.

Salta and Jujuy are both fabulous destinations, and with this Safari to the Clouds, you can enjoy the very best of what they have to offer. Book this tour now to enrich your travels in Argentina’s north-west.
