Welcome to an unparalleled experience in the southernmost city in the world, Ushuaia, Argentina. In this thrilling canoe tour through the majestic Beagle Channel, you will immerse yourself in the unmatched beauty of Tierra del Fuego, enjoying breathtaking landscapes and the unique opportunity to spot one of Antarctica's most charming species: the penguins!

Enjoy the best Penguin watching in Ushuaia!

We begin this adventure in Tierra del Fuego, traveling eastward through a glacial valley, and as we follow the river's course in canoes, it leads us to the end of the Beagle Channel, where we will delight in the unique views of remote, irregular coastlines.

The Beagle Channel is an impressive maritime passage that separates the main islands of Tierra del Fuego, including the Big Island and several smaller ones. It offers spectacular scenery, with rugged mountains, glaciers, and a wide variety of wildlife.

We will explore the untouched and astonishing nature of Gable Island on foot, surrounded by the history of this "last corner of the Earth," after enjoying a delicious lunch.

We also encounter Magellanic and Gentoo penguins, who arrive in summer to nest on Martillo Island.

Tour Itinerary:

Departure from Ushuaia to the Eastern zone of the Beagle Channel

We leave behind the beautiful landscapes of Ushuaia as we pass through Tierra Mayor Valley, a stunning area located on the outskirts of Ushuaia, in the province of Tierra del Fuego, Argentina. This valley is renowned for its impressive scenery, rich flora and fauna, and diverse outdoor activities.

Around 10 am, we embark on the great canoe adventure, where our group of specialized guides will provide us with the necessary equipment (rubber boots, waterproof pants, life jackets, and paddles) and give us a safety briefing to prepare us for navigating downstream to reach the Beagle Channel.

Our canoes are safe and stable, allowing you to paddle through the calm waters of the Beagle Channel. As you sail, you'll witness majestic mountains rising on the horizon and lush forests lining the shores. Our expert guides will provide instructions on using the canoes and paddles, accompanying you throughout the journey to ensure a safe and thrilling experience.

Transfer to the main house of Harberton Ranch

Around noon, we will arrive at Harberton Ranch, from where we will start the motorized navigation to the penguin colony at Martillo Island and Gable Island.

Harberton Ranch is a historic and picturesque estate located in the province of Tierra del Fuego, Argentina, near the city of Ushuaia. Founded in 1886, it is one of the oldest ranches in the region and is known for its historical legacy, natural beauty, and tourist activities.

At Harberton Ranch, you'll find the Acatushún Museum of Marine Birds and Mammals, dedicated to the preservation and exhibition of the marine and bird fauna of the region. The museum houses an impressive collection of skeletons and specimens of marine birds and mammals, providing visitors with a unique opportunity to learn about the rich biodiversity of Tierra del Fuego.

Harberton Ranch is a charming place to learn more about the history of Tierra del Fuego's colonization, explore the beauty of the Beagle Channel, and discover the region's rich biodiversity.

Experience from Another World: Penguin Watching at Martillo Island

After the motorized navigation, our first stop is Martillo Island.

Martillo Island is home to a colony of Magellanic penguins. These penguins are known for their striking black and white plumage and playful behavior. They are native to the region and arrive on the island during the breeding and nesting season.

In addition to Magellanic penguins, Martillo Island can also be a place to spot other species of seabirds and local wildlife, such as cormorants, seagulls, sea lions, and occasionally, some cetacean species.

Our priority is to preserve the natural beauty of the Beagle Channel and protect the wildlife that inhabits it. During the tour, we ensure to follow sustainable and environmentally friendly practices, guaranteeing that future generations can also enjoy this wonderful experience. For this reason, our approach to penguins emphasizes respect for their space and tranquility. We will observe them from the shore, where they are most active, without disturbing them.

Arrival at Gable Island and Disembarkation

Around 1 pm, we will arrive at the highest point of the excursion: the private nature reserve of Gable Island, where nature remains untouched, offering unimaginable landscapes.

Once on Gable Island, we will stop to enjoy lunch amid the beautiful scenery it offers. The menu includes appetizers with pickles, olives, and cheeses. The main course consists of hake cooked in papillote with rustic potatoes, including beverages. For dessert, there will be Panna cotta, coffee, and tea. Vegetarians and celiacs have an alternative menu available if requested in advance.

From the southern coast of Gable Island, we will have an unusual view of the Beagle Channel from the elevated viewpoint called "the gables", a glacial formation that inspired the metaphorical name given by Anglican settlers.

From the height of Gable Island, we have an immense view of the Beagle Channel, toward Ushuaia, and very close to Puerto Williams.

This incredible excursion will conclude around 5 pm, as we begin our journey back to Ushuaia.
